I ordered two direct from surroundair.com for $89 each. delivery was fine, BUT I am not impressed with the product at all. The construction is cheap ABS plastic which feels really chinzy… and the fan is fairly loud. Worse yet, one of the two units was delivered DOA.
After calling the toll-free support, which was direct and helpful, they walked me thru removing and replacing the rear grill which “reset” a safety switch and the dead unit was resurrected. Apparently this is a fairly common problem resulting from shipping loosening the grill. They were also pleaseant about being willing to replace the unit if it didn’t work for any reason.
So, service gets an “A”, but the unit itself is somewhat questionable.
I just got this as a gift, and after two days noticed a difference in the air in my bedroom — BAD!
I started to wake up with a sore throat and headaches. I thought it was the fan blowing too many large particles around, so I turned it off. I then left the room, and two hours later went back in — I couldn’t breathe. I immediately smelled something strange and I started coughing and immediately opened the windows (in the dead of winter).
After some research, I found that this produces OZONE - which is BAD FOR YOUR LUNGS, AND HEALTH IN GENERAL!! What I was smelling was the ozone.
Maybe if I had it in a large, open area, it’d be ok…but this is NOT for a small, enclosed room like a bedroom. BEWARE!!!
It’s do the job ok, but you get what you paid for.
