I have allergies and we have a lot of dust in our home. An air purifier seemed like a wise purchase. We purchased the Oreck XL tabletop purifier for our bedroom AND the tower purifier for our den. I liked the idea that the filter could be cleaned and reused, and we believed the ads about how well the Oreck purifiers performed. We’ve had our units for nearly 7 months, and frankly, I have noticed little to no change in my allergies or the dust in my home. Plus, the filter needs weekly cleaning! After just a few days of use, it begins to snap loudly, often waking me up in the middle of the night. I understand that the unit collects impurities and “zaps” them, but I should NOT be having to clean these filters so often! I cleaned our bedroom unit two days ago. THAT NIGHT that I put it back in, it began snapping again! In addition, the filters take forever to dry (and they must be 100% dry before you can put them back in). I put them in a sunny spot to dry more quickly. Otherwise it could take two days to air dry! Finally, the units are pretty noisy. The “silent” mode is all we can handle. Bottom line, we could not be more disappointed with the Oreck purifiers. Please do your research (go to www.air-purifiers-america.com for good reviews on tested models)! We failed to research this well and opted to believe the hype. Never again!
