My husband and I both suffer from allergies, his are seasonal and mine are seasonal but also the usual dust, mold, animal dander etc. We also have two dogs, a golden retriever and a yellow lab. The lab really sheds and even though we have the dogs groomed every 5 weeks there is still a ton of fur and dander in the house. We really suffer when we can’t use the airconditioner which is most of the year since we live in New England and with the cold springs and early winters we can’t use a/c most of the time.

We decided to buy an air purifier but we really weren’t sure what we wanted. I didn’t want anything to expensive and I settled on a which was reasonably priced. Well we had it for about 2 weeks when I couldn’t stand the noise anymore.

I had wanted to buy the XL from the start, has a good reputation and with the try it for free for 90 days how could we go wrong. I went on the website and ordered it and also used their convenient payment plan. We received our machine in about two weeks time. It probably would have been sooner, but there was a note saying it was taking a little longer due to Hurricane Katrina. The purifier was packed very well and it came with simple directions on setup and how to use the machine.

I have the air purifier in our bedroom which is about 15×20 in size. The unit sits right on the end of my dresser and is very non-intrusive.

The machine has a 5-stage cleaning system including an ionizer. What this means is there is a prefilter, the ionizer, collector, charcoal absorber and negative ion generator. It also has a little holder that you can put an airfreshner in and it will circulate in the air. I do not use that feature, I didn’t care for the fragrance and anyone who has sinus problems, those scents can cause a headache pretty quickly. This all helps to capture and destroy bacteria mold, fungi and mildew. It traps allergens that are airborne.

It has a three speed settings, that range from Quiet Clean (which is very low) to Maximum clean, this is the high speed which is very loud. There is also a medium speed. At night we set it to Quiet Clean and you can barely hear it, sometimes I think its not even on. When I leave the room in the morning I will put it on medium speed and close the door. The top of the machine has adjustable louvers so you can direct the clean air to blow which way you want.

The machine measures 16-1/4″x10-1/2″x51/8″h. There are three color choices, white, black and walnut. We have the black which just blends in with most things.

It is extremely easy to clean. There is one screw on the bottom front of the machine that you just loosen and then pull the front of the machine off. You then just take the whole cell out of the machine and remove the prefilter which is right in the front and then the charcoal filter that is in the back of the cell. You then just rinse the metal cell right under the faucet with warm water until you get the black residue out and then you can then just soak the cell right in the sink with mild detergent. You let it dry completely before putting it back into the machine. You cannot wash the charcoal filter but you can wash the prefilter. You never have to buy filters for this machine which can be very costly.

We have had this purifier now for three months and we love it. I don’t wake up in the morning with the stuffy achy head or the stuffy nose I always had prior to owning it. Both our dogs sleep in our room along with our cat that I neglected to mention. This machine works so well that you would never, ever, know that we had animals in our room. It cleans the air of all odors.

The price is high but if I had to buy filters for a different brand every 2-3 months I would have been spending more for filters in a year then the costs. The lifetime electronic filter never needs replacing. It is a high quality machine and is well worth the investment.
