My daughter has a serious case of sleep apnea which we know is aggravated by common allergies to pollen. We also live less than a mile from the freeway, so I was concerned about diesel exhaust particles in the air.

I did a lot of research on available air filters and purifiers. One thing I noticed right away is that IQAir is one of the few companies which actually publishes real specifications on the effectiveness of their air filters. IQAir tells you what size particles they can filter, amount of air flow through the machine, and the square footage of the space which can be reasonably supported by each model. Few other manufacturers of residential air filters provide this info and I found that this information, independent test results, and consumer opinions were the only useful comparisons.

The air filter helped immediately. It has not completely alleviated the problem, but my daughter has significantly less apnea and breathes much better at night.

I usually turn it on the maximum setting about 2 hours before my daughter goes to sleep and then turn it down to #2 when my daughter goes to sleep and leave it running throughout the night.

I am going to buy a second one for the other end of the house.
