I went online to buy filters for my IZ’s and found this review page and thought I’d give the skinny on how these work.
First of all, I’ve owned 4 IZ-270 machines for just over 1 year now. I’ve used the Ionic Zone HEPA Ionizer for 3 months now. The IZ-270’s are small ionizers, 8 inches tall by 6 inches wide, maybe 3 inches thick. They have 25 pins and 25 collector plates that collect dust and produce ions. It also has a brush ion emitter near the front grill. The IZ-270 has 2 filters, one white 3M Filtrete filter and one black carbon filter. Air first passes over those 2 filters, the gasses and what not get trapped on the collector plates.
The filters and cartridge is easy to clean. I just put the cartridge in the dishwasher once a month and hand clean the 2 washable filters. I use bleach or oxyclean to get the white filter white again. The cartridge takes around 1-2 hours to dry but I bought extra cartridges for $5 each so I just switch them out and install new filters when the wet cartridge dries and store it for the following months cleaning cycle.
Before using the IZ-270’s, I had a hard time sleeping. My apartment has bad ventilation; the air in my room is very stuffy. The IZ-270’s ions and maybe a small amount of ozone freshens the air and allows me to deep sleep with less snoring according to my girlfriend. That’s the best benefit I’ve noticed. In the past year, I haven’t caught a cold either, but that may just be good luck. The year before I caught 4 colds during the year. Maybe the bad air in my apartment was making it easy for me to get sick and now with cleaner air I’m not getting sick.
To sum up, these air cleaners are dirt cheap, around $20-$25 and they hardly use any electricity. Plus they come with a 4 year supply of filters, replacements under $1. Based on the benefits I’ve received, I’d say they’re worth their weight in gold.
