Well, with allergy season just around the corner, I decided it was time to look into one of these air purifiers. Not only am I allergic to pollen, but Im also sensitive to dust and somewhat allergic to our beloved cat. It was more money than I wanted to spend, but I finally decided on the 17000. Wow, this machine is worth every penny, it works great!

I mainly keep the air cleaner in the living room and the manufacturer recommendation is for use in smaller rooms up to 168 square feet. The 17000 filters out dust, molds, pollens, and pet dander. My friend has asthma problems and she there was a noticeable difference in her symptoms after using this air cleaner.

The 17000 has an Intelli-Check system so itll tell you when its time to change the filter. There is also a QuietCare feature which helps reduce the noise. I find that set to medium with the tv on, I barely notice it at all. You can leave it running and it will constantly filter the room, the manual indicates that all the air in the room is completely filtered every 12 minutes. When more spring flowers bloom and the pollen gets worse, I plan to take the purifier into the bedroom with me at night. There is a built-in handle and at 12-13 pounds, its not too heavy to move around. The filtering is more effective if you leave the windows closed.

The 17000 uses 2 filters, one is a carbon pre-filter which filters out the larger particles, then there is a finer HEPA filter which works for smaller allergens. The prefilter costs about $15 and lasts for 6 months. The HEPA filter costs $70 and lasts 1 year. I guess my only complaint is that the filters are expensive, but it sure is great to breathe clearly at last.

Features:

-99.97% HEPA filter

-Recommended for a 12′ x 14′ room; 6 air changes per hour

-Clean air delivery rate (CADR) for tobacco smoke: 130

-Replacement filters: Activated carbon pre-filter #32002 or 38002. HEPA filter #20500

-Easy filter access

-QuietCare feature

-Intelli-Check for filter replacement
