I first bought my TrueAir Air Purifier shortly after I had my cat for a while, and didn’t want my apartment smelling like a “cat place.” No matter how clean you might be, the cat box can still be a bit smelly after the cat uses it.
Spray V TrueAir
I had spent much of my time investigating a variety of deodorizers, be they plug in, pump, sprays, candles, or oil burners. Problem was, more often than not, these items left the house with the smell of the spray (or oils or whatever) and cat box. As you can imagine, that’s not terribly pleasant, and I promise, the next time you smell that spray, all you’ll be thinking of is *cat box* or whatever other odor you’re trying to eliminate.
On a regular shopping day, I saw this item at the local Kohls department store. I had seen it advertised and so, intrigued I picked up the package and read the description. The device promised to reduce or eliminate odors %26 air born particles without the use of annoying sprays or deodorants. For someone like me who has allergies and sinus problems this sounded like it would be worth a shot.
After using it for several days, I swore by it. At times I would need the outlet it was using, unplug it, and leave it unplugged by accident in my hurry to get to work. No fail, that evening I’d come home and be able to tell the difference.
Regrettable Decision
I did get a little worried when I couldn’t find filters for it anymore. In a clutter removing cleaning session, I decided it was time to move on. If I couldn’t find filters for it, there was no sense in keeping it, and I tossed it.
Recently, I brought home a second young cat to my household, who unfortunately had brought worms with her. (I know, this is not heading a pleasant direction) As any pet owner will tell you, a cat with worms, is a stinky cat when it comes to their litter box. I found myself regretting having tossed the TrueAir and again returned to seeking the miracle deodorant spray.
Predictably, the sprays were not working, and many irritated my sinuses, giving me painful sinus headaches. I was on the prowl again for my old TrueAir. I was going to find one, be it used or otherwise.
The Hunt Was On
I searched on Amazon (who didn’t carry them), checked Kohls again in a desperate attempt to find one with no luck, checked all kinds of little stores, pet stores, bed and bath stores and the like with no luck. Until… in an equally frustrating hunt, I searched Wallmart for my humidifier filters.
BINGO
Walmart carries these ingenious little plug in air cleaners, and a variety of filters depending on your odor issues, be they kitchen related (fish and the like), smoking, or pet odors. Hooray!! I brought it home, and even my husband commented “Why did you ever get rid of that in the first place?”
Since then, our house has been smelling a lot better, and of course our kitties are feeling better as well. I won’t be tossing my TrueAir away again. I was lost without it.
Pros
1. Plugs right into a regular outlet
2. Small enough to fit in your bathroom socket without taking up much room
3. There are a variety of filters you can choose depending on your odor issue
4. Works really well in small places (like a bathroom)
5. Relatively speaking, it’s a lot cheaper than those larger units that clean large rooms or whole apartments
6. Filters are about $3.50 for the regular and $4.90 for the specialized kind
7. Quiet - for the most part I don’t even notice it. It’s about as noisy as a small fan
Cons
1. Will take up 1 outlet, and in the bathroom, that outlet can be precious
2. Won’t work for a large space, or whole apartment/house (can’t expect this to work small miracles in large rooms)
3. It attracts dust and will need to be cleaned with a moist rag (when unplugged) occasionally
4. The plastic it’s made of tends to yellow a bit
5. Can be hard to find (check your local Walmart)
In conclusion
I would recommend this product for anyone who has a small room they would like to keep fresh. Say a bathroom, kitchen, bedroom, or small living room. This product does work, and it’s much nicer than trying to cover up odors with some sort of scent. At least I think so.
If you’re looking for something to clean a large room or whole house, I’d recommend looking elsewhere.
