We purchased this air filter about seven months ago for the utility room. Our utility room contains our cats� litter boxes AND is the room off the kitchen, so that room isn�t always the sweetest smelling room in the house. We were especially hoping to curb some of the litter box smell from one of our cats whose waste is very odoriferous to say the least. We followed the directions that came with the filter exactly, making sure to place the filter no greater than six feet from the source of the odor (i.e., the litter boxes). We bought the all purpose filters instead of the pet odor filters in hopes that the filter would curb both the pet and kitchen odors.

Since we started using this unit, I really haven�t noticed a change in the intensity of smell coming from that room. We still change the litter boxes as regularly as we always had. I�m not sure that the filter is really doing any good. Other disadvantages include the fact that the replacement filters that fit inside the unit are expensive and somewhat hard to find, and it�s hard to plug in the unit without blocking two outlets. Also, the unit draws in dust, so you have to regularly clean it on the inside where you change the replacement filters. Lastly, this filter isn�t the quietest thing in the world. Luckily, our furnace and air conditioner drown out the filter because they are also in our laundry room. Also, we try not to spend too much time in there, so the noise doesn�t really bother us. However, to have the filter in a bedroom might be annoying.

I think that Plug-Ins or another type of odor control method would work as well or better than this filter does. I know those items cost less than this filter and also probably use less electricity.
