We bought two units at the same time because Walmart was running a two for one sale. We’re always looking for ways to eliminate cat odor!

The package included two units, two “all purpose” filters and coupons for use on future filter purchases. The packaging made reference to several specific filters — pet, smoke, kitchen, and diaper for example. We looked for pet odor filters but Walmart didn’t seem to have them in stock.

The product claims to work for months, depending on use. I found this claim to be fuzzy. Am I supposed to wait for my cats to defecate and then turn them on to preserve the filter? I decided to leave my filters running constantly, instead.

The product is extremely convenient to use: you pop open the front of the unit and install a filter inside. The filters are notched at one corner and the unit’s shape matches; it would be pretty difficult to install it incorrectly.

We installed one near our main cat box and one in the bathroom where there is a smaller cat box. The product claims to have a six foot radius from which it can eliminate odors, so we tried to install them as close to the boxes as possible. We were within the six foot radius in each case, but were prevented from installing them directly near the cat boxes because of our wall outlet placement.

We noticed a decrease in odor that lasted about a week. We were really happy with this product until we realized that the filters would have to be replaced every week with our cat litter situation. Also, as much as we like our homes to be perfect, preschoolers can create olfactory situations as well. We think this is a good product, but just not strong enough for our house. We’re reading up on large scale purifiers for smell and allergen reduction.

We decided that since the filters cost between $3 and $5 depending on where you get them, it wasn’t worth the investment to use nonstop. We still have them plugged in and run them while we scoop the cat litter, since that is when the smell is the worst. This way, we run our units once or twice a day and the filters last a little longer.

We’ve returned to opening the windows often and changing our A/C filter frequently to combat the constant “cat smell.”

Another minor flaw is that the product blocks an outlet on your wall. We’d prefer if it had an outlet built in like some of those air freshener units have.
