I bought the Hamilton Beach True Air to use in my bathroom which doesn’t have a fan. I have two kittens and I keep their litter box in the bathroom adjacent to my bedroom. The poor ventilation and the proximity to my bedroom made cohabitating with my kitties and their box very taxing. I hated coming home at the end of the day, opening my bedroom door and being knocked out my the litter box odor.
The HB Filter did seem to help the air quality in the bathroom, but it doesn’t do miracles. Just after the kittens do their business, there is still a smell. However, the smell does not linger like it used to. Give it about half and hour and it does cut down the odor noticeably. The smell doesn’t hit me right when I walk in the door anymore. It also seems to work better when I keep the door closed.
The unit itself makes a significant amount of noise. It isn’t an obnoxious noise (like a fan blowing), but it is definitely noticable. Since it is “white noise,” I don’t have a problem sleeping through it.
The unit is fairly large (about the size of a portable CD player). It only needs one outlet, but it doesn’t leave much room for the second outlet to be useable. I like the fact that it has an on/off switch so you don’t have to keep unplugging/plugging it. I’ve only had the unit one week and I havent’ seen the electricity bill so I don’t know if it makes a difference.
I bought my unit from Amazon.com and it comes with 2 free replacemenet filters. Thereafter, I’ll probably need to buy more on line since I didn’t see them at my local grocery/drug stores.
All in all, I would recommend this product only if you are planning to use it in a small enclosed space. It does help, but it won’t work miracles.
