I received my DAP130 Air Purifier in January, and I am so far very pleased with it. I purchased it for $66.99 from Amazon.com. It offers great filtration at a reasonable price.

Filtration

The DAP130 filters the air using a pre-filter, HEPA filter, and an activated carbon filter. The filter dial offers four speeds to choose from. When it’s set to the lowest speed, it is extremely quiet, you can’t even tell that it’s on. On the other hand, at the the highest setting, it is very noisy. I normally run it on medium-low during the day, and low at night.

It’s hard to tell how good it cleans the air, but the air seems to at least smell fresher, definitely a good sign. I have yet to see how it does during the fall when I suffer from severe ragweed allergies.

Ionization

The DAP130 also features an ionization dial with two options: on and off. Supposedly, this feature works by ionizing small particles so that they will stick to each other and form larger particles that the filter will capture. The manual advises not using the ionizer for more than 3 hours a day as “with more prolonged use, the dust may settle on walls and floors.” I use the feature a few hours a day, and I haven’t noticed any buildup of dust.

Complaints

About a month after receiving my , I noticed that the small filter indicator light was off, but the filter was turned on. Now, the light will only come on fully when the filter is on high. It’s not a huge problem, just a little inconvenient.

My only other complaint is the high price of the replacement filters. charges $45 for the HEPA filter, $35 for the “electrostatic filter”, and $15 for the carbon filter, plus shipping. I certainly won’t be replacing my filters too often.
