I purchased the BlueAir 501 about 2 yrs. ago for a small master bedroom.I have 2 cats, which don’t shed much, but I do have allergies. The BlueAir 501 seemed to do an excellent job of purifying the air.I use it 24 hrs. a day on the second highest setting. It didn’t cut down on the amount of dust in the room, but air did feel fresher. Cleaning the unit isn’t much of a problem. I wipe down the outer and inner grates with a damp cloth, or use the brush attachment on vacuum. It’s not a big deal. Thought the light would be cool, but ended up turning machine around as the blue light casts a glow on the entire room and will almost blind you when looking at it directly. Now the problem, a BIG problem. I’m on the replacement filter program, which sends new filters every 6 months. Up to the last batch no problems. Then about 4 weeks ago, I received my new replacement shipment. I put the new filters in, turned on the machine, and PHEW! what a smell. Kind of like wet paint. I called BlueAir, after breathing this for a week, and they apologized and sent a replacement set(I had to ship back the “stinky ones”-their dime, but my time). Next set arrived, same thing. I just received my 3rd set today, and guess what, still stinky! I am not the only one to notice this smell, and nothing has changed except the new filters. These are NOT the “SmokeStop”, just regular particle filters. I feel like a fool calling them for the 4th time, but they have done something to their product. I just couldn’t believe no one else had complained about this issue. For a $500 cleaner, plus $70 every 6 months, I expect my air to be breathable, not worse. Not sure what to do now. Stay away until this has been resolved!!!
