I received this filter as a gift. The filter currently resides in the kitchen next to 2 bird cages filled with 5 cockatiels. I have allergies AND asthma that are affected pretty highly by the dust and dander from the birds. We’ve purchased “cheap” filters with $50 replacement HEPAs that weren’t everything they were cracked up to be. We also use the SAME filter in our Cat Habitat at the Animal shelter I work at. The difference between on and off is like night and day. The filter manages to remove pet dander and smells from the air that cheap filters don’t even touch. The filter doesn’t fill up to quickly either. Even in the high use situations they are in.
Cleaning is a bit of a pain blast out the filter element with a compressor or a vacuum then a rinse w/soapy water.
I use this at work, where it is common for the owner (my father) to smoke two to three packs of cigarettes a day. Having recently quit smoking and having to share an office with him, I had to get creative on how to stay off the cigs. This little unit sits in an office of a construction shop with sawdust that is widely prevalent. After two days of nonstop use, customers and other employees have come in and said what a HUGE difference it makes. It even has gross nicotine stains now at the air intake. I replaced my home one with a commercial unit by Honeywell that cost nearly twice what this one did, and to be honest, if the new one’s filters were not so expensive to replace, I would switch them out. I love this unit and am thinking of just buying another one. I have asthma as well, and I have noticed a MAJOR decrease in the gutteral coughing that asthmatics unconsciously do. (I did not notice it, my friend did actually!) If you want it, GET IT. Changes the whole way your house smells.
